Today i will ramble.

Thinking back to June 2009, we had no idea of how HDSLR would ever play a role in our wedding works. Me & Suhaimi was a true photographer at heart with no remorse on turning our work into motion.Last month we celebrated that one year old anniversary, think again, we are only one year old in the wedding videography which has somehow changed into wedding cinematography. We are not shooting video anymore, the HDSLR has changed us into shooting a cinematic documentary, the HDSLR brings film look into wedding documentary and we are not looking back to DVs or HDVs. With all the drawback of HDSLR people are banging left and right, for US wedding cinematographers, the most important thing in this business is the final output, not the gears nor the missing features in a camera. We don’t do TV shows. Looking back of how much we have achieved in a year, we are pretty much proud of what we produced and hope that we have entertained all of our previous clients and also blog readers with our Wedding Documentaries.

End of rambling.

How can the above relate to Rushdan & Farissa? They are the 2nd couple that booked our wedding documentary package A YEAR ago. I remembered we had no video works to pitch but only Shaha & Catriona Ross’s Wedding Highlights. That was the only thing we had just to say YES we do wedding video documentary. Last week was their wedding day. It was Hell. Not the wedding, but Me. My wife was diagnosed with Dermoid Cyst 8cm on the left & 3cm on the right & needed operation ASAP & my kids had diarrhea & i had a very bad soar throat to conclude a perfect weekend. It was 2 days before Rushdan & Farissa’s Nikah, I somehow feel that i needed a 2nd professional opinion on my wife’s diagnosis and i knew Farissa is a doctor in HKL. I gave her a call and expected that she would go panic that i couldn’t shoot her Nikah. I was wrong! she was so calm & relax and told me everything will go well. no sign of panic attack, then i understand how a doctor would react to a patient. Everything is ok. My wife will do her Dermoid Cyst removal next tuesday.

1 Day to Nikah day.I had to drive to Port Dickson for Tomok’s Bagai Bidadari Music video shoot with MotioFixo . We shot from evening until midnight.Past Midnight i had panic attack, If this shoot doesn’t end soon, i won’t make it back to KL and shoot Rushdan & Farissa’s Nikah at 7am. The shoot wraps at 430am, Me and Kechik,my assistant drove back to KL and i had 30 minutes nap. Reached home at 6am and had a quick bath and shoot straight to Masjid Wilayah for the Nikah. I know on this day i will suffer the consequences of no sleep with an SDE to produce. I had Faiz as my 2nd videographer & Asyiek as the main photographer of the day. Finished the Nikah shoot and Farissa & Rushdan noticed that i had a sleepless night & i told them worst case i will finish the SDE with the best part of her friend’s interviews and pre wedding shoots because thats the most interesting part of the preparation story line that brought to the nikah day.Farissa said, its ok, worst case just do the Nikah only without the pre wedding shoots. And i said OK.

Am blogging at 6am in the morning of my wife’s Dermoid Cyst removal operation.Like what Farissa said, everything will go well & so did her SDE which i finished with her friend’s interview including the Pre wedding shoots & the Nikah footage with no sleep.

Enjoy people!

i don’t usually share my personal life, but i just want to share that Everything planned won’t be perfect but All Will Go Well.

:D

We were approached to shoot their ‘Big Day’ quite close to the wedding date itself so basically i’ve missed all the important fitting dates and preparation shoot. And 4 days before the wedding day, we brainstorm bazillion of ideas until we came out with something much more logical to shoot only in one day! Instead of a typical wedding highlights, how about The Idea of : Who they are?! So we went for a full day shoot 3 days before the wedding date. Me & Suhaimi somehow learn to know them through the shoot without them explaining. They are one fun couple to shoot! Ain has so much energy in her which at time she stands out more than Afzal!sorry man!haha! Afzal can be so quiet at times and so hyper the next! They share a lot of interest together, video games(hilarious to watch them play), paintball & Gym. Afzal, as much as you hate watching yourself in this highlight, i know that deep down inside you guys had fun producing it!haha! You guys just rock this highlight!

If you remember “Our Story” from Azila & Iwan, we documented them at Petaling Street. Till to this time i would say we are obsessed with Petaling Street! oh well it doesn’t hurt going to the same place and look for new things. Both of the couple were shot on the same day, Azila | Iwan in the morning & Adib | Niza at night. When we went back to see our footage, we were so amazed how we shot in the morning is totally different than the one at night. Night time as we all know Petaling Street comes alive with colors from tungsten light, neon lights & street lights, we fully utilize the available light and check out what we have got. This time we’re gonna share tons of photos!

Photographer’s Info :
Gears – 2x 5dmk2, 50mm 1.2, 24mm 1.4 & 135mm f2
Edited in CS3 Raw
Photos spiced up with Totally Rad Action.

We parked near Kotaraya and started shooting at a nearby bus stand with a helpful fluorescent light.
Adib & Niza
And we move them outside of the bus stand capturing Petaling Street’s entrance as a background.
Adib & Niza
Caught this when they were window shopping at Petaling Street.
Adib & Niza
At night there’s just so many light source you can find along the street.including this!
Adib & Niza
This alley has nice repetition of horizontal & vertical lines as you can see on the right & i asked Adib to look fierce!
Adib & Niza
Then i saw one entrance to an underground parking lot with a nice blue hue and also a great down-light. Love this moment of them!
Adib & Niza
Then we place Niza alone for a fun scary poker face which works really well with the down-light! She’s not that scary though…
Adib & Niza
Yup it’s the usual Petaling Street stuff!
Adib & Niza
This is one of the favourite shots of the night. We spent quite sometime here just to get that perfect lighting and reflection.Adib & Niza’s pose contribute emotion to the whole piece.
Adib & Niza
And we took another shot on landscape.Just love how Adib’s hands look like.
Adib & Niza
Then we walked out of Petaling Street and went to this overhead pedestrian crossing. There were lots of down-light and spotlight to be utilized.
Adib & Niza
Then Adib doing his manly pose!haha!
Adib & Niza
Niza doing guccisalvatoreferagamo face!
Adib & Niza
Adib & Niza doing guccisalvatoreferagamo pose!
Adib & Niza
While at it…The must have ring shot.
Adib & Niza
We move on to the bridge and found this place nicely lit by the advertisement board’s spotlight.
Adib & Niza
We pose them together and let them get into the moment. I shot this with 135mm.
Adib & Niza
And Suhaimi shot this with 50mm. Their face expression just wow us…
Adib & Niza
On our way back to our car, Suhaimi got an idea of posing in the middle of the pavement. Niza’s clothe draws an interesting shape. Wouldn’t hurt just to experiment a shot.
Adib & Niza
Lastly before we finished our session,we ended with a fun shot!
Adib & Niza

We had great time shooting them. Maybe we’ll take a holiday off from Petaling street for sometime.
Anyway hold on tight for an entry of Iwan & Azila’s morning session at Petaling Street.

Hey yall!

In wait for the latest wedding & portraiture we’ve shot, I’ve dug up some old ones to be shared. I wonder why i didn’t share this before but i did upload it to My Flickr.

So Nurul is from Kuala Kangsar and let me tell you how beautiful that small town is in the morning.I could have shot all day doing their portraiture session. There were just so many textures, colors & very interesting subjects to shoot with. I had a blast shooting this couple.we started shooting at 8 in the morning so the shops were still close. In an advantage to us, we used the alley way and the shop’s door shutters, walls, cars, windows and a dozen more to mention. Colorful town, i wish i could have another photo shoot in the future. Lovely town it is! Enjoy these!

We started at the shop lot area.
Shafik & Nurul
Another shot from the same place.See how the bicycle adds up to the drama.
Shafik & Nurul
I just can’t runaway when there was a nice big tree suitable for a background!
Shafik & Nurul
Back to the shop lot. Took to this shot while they were walking where i ask them to pose.
Shafik & Nurul
See how the background color comes out contrasting with the color on them.
Shafik & Nurul
The background color so nice, can’t resist for another shot.
Shafik & Nurul
And another!
Shafik & Nurul
On the way to another location we found this.
Shafik & Nurul
We found this abandon shop by the side of a big drainage. The Myvi at the back somehow spoils it.oh well…
Shafik & Nurul
On the front facade of the abandon shop i found these interesting textures.
Shafik & Nurul
Just infront of the abandon shop, saw this interesting red door with metal pipe going up.
Shafik & Nurul
Yes…this is also in the same area as you can see the red door on the right side!
Shafik & Nurul
Then we went to the Masjid Kuala Kangsar.Very nice Mosque!
Shafik & Nurul
We found this old abandon house just nearby the mosque.
Shafik & Nurul
The abandon house has this nice dirty interior.
Shafik & Nurul
Check out the flooring. That must have looked amazing when there were people living in here.
Shafik & Nurul
We went down to the river by the side of the Istana. Posed with Milo River but the color comes out awesome!
Shafik & Nurul

Just wish we could go there & have another Shoot-out. Kuala Kangsar people please call us!

It is one of those days again where the Adobe Photoshop’s Action habit kicks in again! This job was done for Cedric Chan Studio, one of my best friend during college days @ The One Academy. He’s a designer but then turns out a year or two later he was also shooting weddings! We share ideas & opinions and i learn a lot from him on Chinese & Church weddings. One of the best thing i did for him was to make him sell his Nikon gears and get himself a 5D & 85mm f1.2 lens LOL!!! Sorry Cedric…a man gotta do what a man gotta do…

Anyway enjoy these pics & this is also my first time ever to shoot a non christian chinese wedding. A new experience for me for sure!

And then there was the gate crashing game, the girls had a list of task on paper for the guys! Some of it, Hagen’s friends was required to drink one big bottle of Coke in one shot. Then there was the eating chili stuff which one of Hagen’s friend really enjoyed.
Hagen & Ashley
Then it was Hagen’s turn, he was required to put on lipstick which was not bad….

The Mom really enjoyed the show!
Hagen & Ashley
And Hagen went up to pick up the all lovely Ashley.
Hagen & Ashley
There was the prayer afterward. This part is actually different from a Christian ceremony.
Hagen & Ashley
Hagen & Ashley
Lastly the tea ceremony is something like merenjis for malay wedding where the couple will serve the parents and relatives a cup of tea & they will also receive Ang Pao.
Hagen & Ashley
Now its the kids turn to receive Ang Pao from the couple.
Hagen & Ashley
And now of to the Groom’s house.Servings outside the house.
Hagen & Ashley
Another tea ceremony but this time for the Groom’s family members.
Hagen & Ashley
FYI the guy in red is actually something like Pak Andam where he takes care of the ritual. Can be seen here he’s displaying Ashley to the mother in law, checking out all around if she’s in good condition.
Hagen & Ashley
One thing i didn’t know was that they give out jeweleries during the tea ceremony and check out Ashley’s hand & neck.Bling bling all over!

September 19, 2009

Me & Suhaimi one day went out to one of the largest pasar ramadhan in KL that is Taman Melawati Ramadhan market. We intended to capture the real atmosphere of a Ramadhan market & the most important element of the market : FOOD!!!

The day after we shot the market, we already knew what to buy at the Taman Melawati Ramadhan market because the footages that we had was the menu!:D
Me, Suhaimi & the Shutterspeak Team would like to wish all of our previous & future clients, friends & families :

Shaharudin & Catriona Ross

This is one of the best wedding we have ever shot, awesome couple with each reception having a different theme. For those who know us, we are known for our wedding photography works, well this time around we have produced our first ever wedding videography. 90% of the footage was shot using 5dmk2 & lenses used : 50mm f1.2,16-35mm f2.8,70-200mm f2.8. The other 10% was on XHA1s. The video was shot by Zaidan,Suhaimi & Asyiek as the main videographer.

Who doesn’t know Catriona Ross, the famous malaysian actress. And so we had the idea of “Who is Shaharudin?”,we wanted people to know who is Shaha in an 8 minutes video. One thing unique about this couple is the meeting of two world,an actress marrying a director.By putting the director infront of the camera infused with our traditional flower bath(mandi bunga) which we ourselves have not seen before & a beautiful bride…we have a story.

Drop us a comment for our first ever wedding video.THX!

Music Copyrighted to Black Eyed Peas : I gotta feeling
