Alecs & Peggy | Hong Kong

February 13, 2010

We just had a blast from 2 Hong Kong trips. I went for the 1st round to shoot Peggy’s engagement with Alecs. Faiz Kadir(silverklover) & one of my best friend Cedric Chan was also there to shoot this memorable event.Yes, Peggy is from Hong Kong and Alecs from Sri Petaling,KL but they’ve been living in London for quite sometime. They hired us to produce video documentary of their engagement in HK, gate crashing, tea ceremony, dinner in KL, Banquet in HK and also an outdoor photo session in Hong Kong. Let’s save the Video documentary for another post,so we’ll talk more about the photos for this post. Imagine Hong Kong…but at 1130pm/2330, no one was on the street, shop closed but the tram still running though until 1200pm. What a unique experience for us! We started shooting in front of the famous Standard Chartered building and walk all the way to a hill with a very long outdoor covered escalator. Have fun looking at the photos!

Started shooting at this building.
alecspeggy1

Then we move on to a tram stand where we thought including the tram might show a lil bit of Hong Kong elements.A beautiful capture & timing by Faiz!
alecspeggy10

Then while we were walking i stopped the couple to have a few shots at this very nice downlight with Hong Kong street as the background. I was really lucky to capture & include the tram too!
alecspeggy2

From Faiz’s angle, what a nice lighting & reflection to add some spice to the scene!
alecspeggy6

We were actually thinking to include the building as the main feature but then it didn’t turn out good so i thought maybe i could include the Hong Kong taxi pass by and hopefully it might make a good capture.
alecspeggy7

Peggy’s mom brought us to this very nice looking stairs. Looks like a cobble stone stairs, the area surrounded by bars & pubs made a good night scene.
alecspeggy3

Just a few steps down the stairs, we found a street full of neon lights.nice bling bling background!
alecspeggy4

and another shot of them on that street.
alecspeggy5

And the last spot was very special! It is a covered outdoor escalator stretching all the way uphill. You’ll be amazed how long this escalator is, we were told that the middle group citizen lives on the hill and they will need to take the stairs to go down town Hong Kong for work. Imagine how tiring it is going back up the hill everyday??? So the government built this escalator to make life easier.cool!!!
alecspeggy8

and lastly my favourite shot of all!
alecspeggy9

well there’s a lot more Hong Kong contents, photos & videos! so stay tune to our blog!

This is the last chapter of our 1st day of shooting Loi & Nicole in Perth. In this chapter mostly we would like to show how to take advantage shooting at sunset. Not the normal silhouette stuff but what other way you can shoot at sunset. Some of our most favorite shot is in this chapter. We went to 3 locations, the 1st location was Narrows Bridge, 2nd was a small Fish house and lastly Fremantle Maritime museum. Bare with me rambling !

Stay tune for our next chapter :

ITCO – Perth, Chapter 1

December 3, 2009

In The Case Of Perth
Chapter 1 : SWAN BREWERY

So we just got back from Perth and couldn’t wait any longer to share the photos with you guys. We actually wanted to produce one long ITCO but then there were so many footage and it would be a very big HD file.So we have decided to break it down into several chapters. We shot at 6 locations inside & outside Perth : Swan Brewery, UWA, The Bridge, Fremantle Maritime Museum, King’s Park & Sandalford Winery. So far i’m looking at 1 location one chapter but to make it more compact maybe i’ll squeeze in 2 locations in one chapter. We also had 2 couples! WOW! That’s not even including Loi & Nicole’s “Our Story”.
So hold on tight guys this is going to be a long chapter of Perth!

As for now enjoy the 1st chapter.

As promised, this is the 2nd time we shoot a couple at Petaling Street & the 3rd one was Adib|Fina. We started early in the morning and tried to play with the beautiful morning light and also the architectural surroundings. Iwan & Azila are those kind of couple that you can easily get into talking, talk basically about anything! Iwan…is one funny guy and from my experience interviewing him on his “Our Story”, you can laugh all day listening to him. Azila really knows how to work that pose! At first they were somehow hesitant to shoot at Petaling Street but then when you’re there to produce your own beautiful set of photos…who cares if someone is looking at you.The whole morning they rocked Petaling Street!

Glad to have shot you guys! oh…anyway…they’re wearing our favourite color….WHITE!

We were looking for colors and found one of those closed stalls with nice blue color!
Iwan & Azila
At one of the building has a nice greasy interior with an orange color wall.
Iwan & Azila
We found out it was some kind of a motel for backpackers that would like to stay in the middle of Petaling Street. And saw this!
Iwan & Azila
Then we went for the streets.
Iwan & Azila
Love the architecture around here!
Iwan & Azila
eh…how’d this got here!
Iwan & Azila
Then we went back to the shop area and found this very nice sunlight went thru a small crack on the roof.
Iwan & Azila
The light source is so small it only lits up their face.
Iwan & Azila
There are some pretty nice signage too…This chinese writing somehow makes Azila look more chinese with her already chinese look haha!
Iwan & Azila
Iwan gotta have some good shot too!
Iwan & Azila
Then we found this small open-no-wall barber shop operated by this uncle. He said he was featured in newspaper a few times before.
Iwan & Azila
Thx uncle for letting us shoot at ur place!
Iwan & Azila

As i’ve said before…our photos shot during daylight comes out totally different than the one we shot at night. Eventhough it is the same location.
Start shooting portraiture at night guys!
As much as we enjoy discovering Petaling Street BUT we need a break shooting there…we’ll do it again in 2010 haha!

If you remember “Our Story” from Azila & Iwan, we documented them at Petaling Street. Till to this time i would say we are obsessed with Petaling Street! oh well it doesn’t hurt going to the same place and look for new things. Both of the couple were shot on the same day, Azila | Iwan in the morning & Adib | Niza at night. When we went back to see our footage, we were so amazed how we shot in the morning is totally different than the one at night. Night time as we all know Petaling Street comes alive with colors from tungsten light, neon lights & street lights, we fully utilize the available light and check out what we have got. This time we’re gonna share tons of photos!

Photographer’s Info :
Gears – 2x 5dmk2, 50mm 1.2, 24mm 1.4 & 135mm f2
Edited in CS3 Raw
Photos spiced up with Totally Rad Action.

We parked near Kotaraya and started shooting at a nearby bus stand with a helpful fluorescent light.
Adib & Niza
And we move them outside of the bus stand capturing Petaling Street’s entrance as a background.
Adib & Niza
Caught this when they were window shopping at Petaling Street.
Adib & Niza
At night there’s just so many light source you can find along the street.including this!
Adib & Niza
This alley has nice repetition of horizontal & vertical lines as you can see on the right & i asked Adib to look fierce!
Adib & Niza
Then i saw one entrance to an underground parking lot with a nice blue hue and also a great down-light. Love this moment of them!
Adib & Niza
Then we place Niza alone for a fun scary poker face which works really well with the down-light! She’s not that scary though…
Adib & Niza
Yup it’s the usual Petaling Street stuff!
Adib & Niza
This is one of the favourite shots of the night. We spent quite sometime here just to get that perfect lighting and reflection.Adib & Niza’s pose contribute emotion to the whole piece.
Adib & Niza
And we took another shot on landscape.Just love how Adib’s hands look like.
Adib & Niza
Then we walked out of Petaling Street and went to this overhead pedestrian crossing. There were lots of down-light and spotlight to be utilized.
Adib & Niza
Then Adib doing his manly pose!haha!
Adib & Niza
Niza doing guccisalvatoreferagamo face!
Adib & Niza
Adib & Niza doing guccisalvatoreferagamo pose!
Adib & Niza
While at it…The must have ring shot.
Adib & Niza
We move on to the bridge and found this place nicely lit by the advertisement board’s spotlight.
Adib & Niza
We pose them together and let them get into the moment. I shot this with 135mm.
Adib & Niza
And Suhaimi shot this with 50mm. Their face expression just wow us…
Adib & Niza
On our way back to our car, Suhaimi got an idea of posing in the middle of the pavement. Niza’s clothe draws an interesting shape. Wouldn’t hurt just to experiment a shot.
Adib & Niza
Lastly before we finished our session,we ended with a fun shot!
Adib & Niza

We had great time shooting them. Maybe we’ll take a holiday off from Petaling street for sometime.
Anyway hold on tight for an entry of Iwan & Azila’s morning session at Petaling Street.

Hey yall!

In wait for the latest wedding & portraiture we’ve shot, I’ve dug up some old ones to be shared. I wonder why i didn’t share this before but i did upload it to My Flickr.

So Nurul is from Kuala Kangsar and let me tell you how beautiful that small town is in the morning.I could have shot all day doing their portraiture session. There were just so many textures, colors & very interesting subjects to shoot with. I had a blast shooting this couple.we started shooting at 8 in the morning so the shops were still close. In an advantage to us, we used the alley way and the shop’s door shutters, walls, cars, windows and a dozen more to mention. Colorful town, i wish i could have another photo shoot in the future. Lovely town it is! Enjoy these!

We started at the shop lot area.
Shafik & Nurul
Another shot from the same place.See how the bicycle adds up to the drama.
Shafik & Nurul
I just can’t runaway when there was a nice big tree suitable for a background!
Shafik & Nurul
Back to the shop lot. Took to this shot while they were walking where i ask them to pose.
Shafik & Nurul
See how the background color comes out contrasting with the color on them.
Shafik & Nurul
The background color so nice, can’t resist for another shot.
Shafik & Nurul
And another!
Shafik & Nurul
On the way to another location we found this.
Shafik & Nurul
We found this abandon shop by the side of a big drainage. The Myvi at the back somehow spoils it.oh well…
Shafik & Nurul
On the front facade of the abandon shop i found these interesting textures.
Shafik & Nurul
Just infront of the abandon shop, saw this interesting red door with metal pipe going up.
Shafik & Nurul
Yes…this is also in the same area as you can see the red door on the right side!
Shafik & Nurul
Then we went to the Masjid Kuala Kangsar.Very nice Mosque!
Shafik & Nurul
We found this old abandon house just nearby the mosque.
Shafik & Nurul
The abandon house has this nice dirty interior.
Shafik & Nurul
Check out the flooring. That must have looked amazing when there were people living in here.
Shafik & Nurul
We went down to the river by the side of the Istana. Posed with Milo River but the color comes out awesome!
Shafik & Nurul

Just wish we could go there & have another Shoot-out. Kuala Kangsar people please call us!

This is an outdoor photoshoot at Petaling street and also a video documentation of Azila & Iwan’s Love relationship.
We introduce you the “Our Story” package!

This time around i hated to do this but i just got to do it…i chose Jason Mraz’s – I’m Yours song!
I knew that one day i’m gonna go back to my music library and choose this song for one of our wedding work, might as well that day would be this day! This is another version of I’m Yours from the Casa Nova Sessions, i think this is the best version out of all.Anyway…since we’ve already had the experience shooting at Petaling Street, we knew where to go and what to shoot but we found very nice new spots with great lighting. Photos of their outdoor shoot will be coming along shortly. At the mean time enjoy “Our Story”.
